Transparent method

Formula, assumptions and check example

This is an internal early-planning model, not a consumption standard. It scales a reference garment weight by product, size and gauge, then adds the selected waste percentage.

Calculation logic

  • grams per piece = product reference grams × size factor × gauge factor.
  • net kg = grams per piece × quantity ÷ 1,000; purchase kg = net kg × (1 + waste %).

Assumptions and limits

  • Reference weights are planning heuristics and do not include a style-specific knit program, stitch map or sample weight.
  • Finishing loss, yarn package minimums and supplier tolerances may change the final requirement.

Worked check

250 medium, 7-gauge pullovers at the 450 g reference and 8% waste estimate 112.5 kg net and 121.5 kg including waste.
