Formula, assumptions and check example
This internal model scales a reference weight for sock type by gauge and size-range factors, then adds a fixed 10% planning waste allowance.
Calculation logic
- grams per pair = sock-type reference grams × gauge factor × size-range factor.
- yarn kg = grams per pair × quantity × 1.10 ÷ 1,000.
Assumptions and limits
- The estimate does not model elastane, plating yarn, reinforcement, toe/heel construction, machine setup or style-specific sample weight.
Worked check
1,000 home-sock pairs at 6 gauge with two size ranges estimate 104.5 g per pair and approximately 115.0 kg including 10% waste.
