Formula, assumptions and check example

The estimator adds waste to required kilograms, then applies yarn and handling cost before dividing by finished units.

Calculation logic

  • purchase kg = required kg × (1 + waste %).
  • total yarn cost = purchase kg × (price per kg + handling per kg); cost per unit = total cost ÷ finished units.

Assumptions and limits

  • The result excludes taxes, freight, duty, currency movement, knitting loss and other production costs unless entered inside the handling value.

Worked check

120 kg with 8% waste, €28/kg yarn, €1.50/kg handling and 250 units gives 129.6 kg to purchase, €3,823.20 total and €15.29 per unit.
